Pfreaky PFATT Pfright in June.....BOO!

The piece above is available this month on PFATT Marketplace. I designed it especially for the annual Halloween in June celebration that we have...it's always a lot of fun! Be sure to stop by and throw your name in the hat for the wonderful door prizes that we are giving away too.

My very talented friend Colleen Moody created the lovely doll pictured above....isn't she stunning! Colleen has tagged me to list 6 Unimportant Things about myself. Thanks Colleen! ;) OK here goes....I hope this doesn't bore you all....

1. I love the ocean. Someday I hope that I'll be able to retire there with my husband...buy a little house on or near the beach and be able to enjoy it every day.

2. I have a HUGE sweet tooth! I especially love ice cream, and cheesecake..anything chocolate..YUM!

3. I only get my hair cut about twice a year. My hair grows pretty fast, but I hate having to go and get it cut, so I always put it off until I just can't stand it anymore.

4. I secretly enjoy playing video games with my son Simon. We have fun playing together, but sometimes I find myself enjoying it more than him, LOL!

5. I sleep in whenever I can, which isn't very often, but I try just the same. I love not having to wake up to an alarm clock, and usually only set one if I absolutely have to.

6. My favorite vegetables are green...artichokes, zucchini, broccoli, and green beans. In fact, I like the color green a lot I guess, as it shows up a lot in my house, and my art!

Here are the rules of the Tag;

1.Link back to the person that tagged you.
2.Post these rules on your blog.
3.Share six unimportant things about yourself.
4.Tag six people at the end of your entry.

So Tag "You're It!".....here are my six participants;

Jamie of Peach Street's Blog
Lorraine PieCake Primitive's
Elaine of Artful Spirit
Sue of Tinsell and Whimsy
Michelle of The Blackberry Briar
Lone Pierett~ Dollmaker Extraordinaire!

Below are new pictures of the mural...still in progress. We had hoped to have it finished up by the end of May, but things were very busy for everyone in May, so we are still working on it.

I am almost finished with Thomas and Sir Topham Hat!
Doo, doo, doo, da, doo...Inspector Gadget......

And here's how it looks so far.....
This is a picture that I snapped on one of my recent trips to the flea market. I just love these vintage finds mounted under the domes...so interesting!
Thank you again to all that wrote and left comments after my grandfather passed away last month. It has been a slow healing process for myself and my family, and I appreciate so much all of the kindness that you shared from your hearts. :) Thank you.

How to measure the pearl size?

1. Different types of pearls have different expected size ranges. A guide: akoyas typically range from 4-8mm, Tahitians from 8-14mm, South Sea pearls from 9-15mm, and freshwater pearls from 5-11mm. All have different expected size ranges, and anything outside the range will be reflected in the price. If the pearl size reach or over the rang, the price will be more higher. Akoyas over 8.5mm, Tahitians over 15mm, South Sea pearls over 17mm, and freshwater pearls over 12mm. 2. Different diameter class by diameter length Mini pearl: diameter <> 8mm 3. How to measure the pearl size? Usually we use the electronic digital caliper to measure the pearl size. It could measure the diameter of loose pearl and the length of pearl jewelry accurately. Except the error by temperature changing, chemical reagent contact, and moisture. The results of measurement are very accurately.

How many kinds of pearls?

As pearls are developed in living creatures, depend on where the creatures live and how the pearls are developed, they are divided into several types.
Due to the developing process of pearls, they are divided as natural pearls and cultured pearls. Natural pearls are the most expensive ones, and they are hard to find now. Normally, the pearls you see in the stores are cultured pearls. Though natural pearls are more expensive than the cultured ones, that doesn’t mean the quality of natural pearls are better than the cultural ones.
The pearls are basically listed into two catalogs: freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls.

We are going to discuss them separately.

Freshwater pearls: Though Biwa Pearls are famous as one of the first cultured freshwater pearls, Chinese freshwater pearls are also cultivated since the beginning of 1970s on the Yangtze River in eastern China. Nowadays, about 90% of freshwater pearls are produced in China. Freshwater pearls are the product of an elaborate process in which a single resilient mussel can be harvested many times and yielding several pearls at a time. Their shapes vary from rice-shape to round, typically off-round or round freshwater pearls are much resemble Akoya pearls, but the price is only about half of them, so they are quite beautiful and more affordable to most people.

Saltwater pearls: There are several common saltwater pearls we know
Akoya Pearls: Saltwater pearls from the Akoya oyster, which are usually cultured. These pearls are typically roundish, and their natural body colors normally range from light pink, to white, to yellowish. Even though they are often called Japanese pearls, they can also be found in oysters outside Japan. In fact, China has become the major producer of Akoya pearls less than 7 mm in size. Currently, most Akoya pearls over 7 mm are cultured in Japan. Akoya pearls are tend to range from 1-10mm.

South Sea Pearls: It’s sometimes used as a general term signifying any saltwater pearl found in the area extending from the Philippines and Indonesia down to Australia and across to French Polynesia. More often than not, it refers specifically to large white or yellow pearls cultured in the silver-lip or yellow-lip oyster found in the South Sea. Because of the rarity and sensitivity of this type of oysters, cultivation of these pearls is much more difficult and making them more expensive. South Sea pearls tend to range from 9-19mm. They are much larger than the average pearls. These are the rarest extraordinary pearls you can find in a jewelry store due to the exceptional smoothness and roundness of the pearls.

Tahitian Pearls: They are named after the tropical island of Tahiti, which is now farmed not only in Tahiti but the Cook Island and other places in the South Pacific as well. Tahitian pearls are larger than Akoya pearls because the oyster is larger. The oyster is very sensitive to the pearl culturing process, which makes the pearls very costly to produce. Tahitian pearls offer a dramatic touch and are famous for their natural black color. The color comes from the color of the oyster’s black lips, but it can range from metallic, silver to the color of black. And within the range of the color, they can have bluish, purplish or greenish overtones.

Pearl color & complexion

The ShecyPearlJewelry customer service does not only help people who want to buy pearl jewelry from its website, but also provide suggestions of choosing the proper color of pearl jewelry. Sometimes choosing the proper pearl color for different complexion is very important.

From time to time, customers ask questions about the right pearl color they should choose to match their complexion. As the western countries are the biggest market to ShecyPearlJewelry and the people in these countries present a wide range of different complexion, we find it’s a need for many people to determine the suitable pearl color, so here are some suggestions you may need, and we hope the suggestions can help people avoid costly mistake when selecting pearl jewelry.

People from western countries can be mainly divided by their skin color (complexion) into 4 kinds: white; yellow; red; black.

White people have the widest range of pearl color to choose from. White and/or cream pearls are the traditional choice for most white people, the color adds cleanness and glow to the skin; pink and/or lavender pearls bring out healthy color on the skin and make people look younger; golden pearls are luxury and suitable for formal dress on many important occasions; black is the complement color of white, so black pearls are noticeable on white people, but black pearls are not always black, most of them are dark color with blue or green overtone, so we suggest people with ivory complexion the black pearls with green overtone, and to the people with pure white complexion, we suggest black pearls with blue overtone.

Most people with yellow undertone in the complexion are from Asia, generally, white and/or cream pearls are their best choice, but pink pearls are not a risky choice for Asian people; the glow from golden pearls add highlight on people with proper outfit. We don’t recommend lavender pearls to people with yellowish complexion, it usually gives a dirty look on the yellow skin; about the black pearls, they normally give the same effect as the lavender pearls does, but with brighter color dress, it may look special on some yellow people.

For people with bright orange or red orange undertone in the complexion, we suggest white pearls with pink overtone and pink freshwater pearls, black Akoya pearls with green overtone will match too; if they want to try a brighter color, then golden South Sea pearls are good; for people with bright pink or burgundy undertone in the complexion, we recommend silvery white pearls and black Akoya pearls with blue overtone, if they prefer bigger pearls, then grey Tahitian pearls are a good choice.

For black people, don’t think white pearls are their only choice. Obviously all kinds of white pearls are fabulous on black people; besides white pearls, golden Akoya pearls are another good option for black people to choose, the yellow color on them can make black skin looks warm. Black pearls are great along with bright color outfit on black people, especially big Tahitian pearls with peacock overtone.

The above suggestions are general for most people, if you need suggestion for yourself, you can contact us to get a detailed one by e-mailing to info@shecypearljewelry.com. Don’t hesitate, get your personal pearl color now.

Important Statement – About Ebay Seller: ShecyPearls

Recently, we continuously received quality complaints of pearl jewelry which were bought from an Ebay Seller – “ShecyPearls”.

After investigation, we found that someone opened an Ebay Store named ShecyPearls without our authorization on April 19, 2007.

ShecyPearlJewelry.com (ShecyPearlsTM) has NEVER opened any Ebay stores in any forms and DOES NOT sell Shecy pearl jewelry online other than our official website: http://www.shecypearljewelry.com/

This “Ebay seller ShecyPearls”, who also uses “YongTai Pearls” in the ebay store, pirates ShecyPearls brand, logo, website graphic and a lot of jewelry pictures to sells low quality pearl jewelry. Many buyers were cheated to buy the jewelry as products from ShecyPearlsJewelry. This conduct not only violates our copyrights and harms our reputation, but also makes customers who love ShecyPearls suffered loss.

Hereby, ShecyPearls solemnly clarifies that there is no connection between the “ebay seller ShecyPearls” and ShecyPearlsTM. We are contacting Ebay to solve this problem.

If you are a victim of this issue, please contact us as soon as possible. Your testimony will undoubtedly help us take positive action against this pirate.

How to identify the real pearl powder?

Shecy pearl powder is made from 100% sea water pearls.

Pearl powder is the name of crushed pearls which is used for skin care in China and some parts of Asia; in traditional Chinese medicine, it's an anti-inflammatory and detoxification agent.

So how to identify real pearl power is very important when you want to use it for beauty or health.

These methods will tell you how to identify the real pearl powder.

Luster:
Real pearl powder is not an essence element of pearls. The powder itself is white to off-white in appearance and does not look shiny.

Touch:
When you touch the pearl powder, it feels soft and smooth. It's not right if you feel grainy powder. The powder adheres to your skin easily.

Smell:
Nothing or a little fishy smell.

Price:
Usually sea water pearl powder is a little more expensive than fresh water pearl powder. If the powder is treated with nanotechnology, the price will be higher.

You can support the victims of Sichuan earthquake through Shecy

For every 100 US dollars you spend on ShecyPearls, 5 dollars will be donated to people who are suffering from the Sichuan Earthquake.

On May 12, 2008, when the ShecyPearls Team was still excited at working in our new office, the building suddenly waggled. All of us ran out of it, and later we realized that something unusual must have happened. We got news that a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan Province, China a few minutes ago. This earthquake was so strong that it had been felt across the country.

As the news was broadcasted worldwide, we continuously received emails from our customers who expressed their concern and sorrow. The ShecyPearls Team thank all of you. We are safe in Guilin, and our business is running well. We had just moved into ShecyPearls new office three days before this tragedy happened.

When sitting in our bright office and watching numerous nightmarish scenes of the earthquake, every member of ShecyPearls has a strong desire to help, even though we are thousands miles away from the disaster. From now on, we will represent you to donate USD5 out of every USD100 you spend on ShecyPearls to victims in the Sichuan Earthquake. 5 dollars which equal to RMB35 can be paid for things such as 14kg rice, 7 meters gauze/ribbon or some basic medicine. Donation is more than giving& acceptance of material; it conveys the power and courage from the kindest people around the world. Together, we make it different!

Fund will be exclusively donated to the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake.

Anti Shecy Pearls piracy - A close look at the Taobao Shop

Severals days ago we published an Important Statement. ShecyPearlJewelry.com (ShecyPearlsTM) has NEVER opened any store in any forms and DOES NOT sell Shecy pearl jewelry online other than our official website: http://www.shecypearljewelry.com/. But some complains were still sent to our website. They are all about the quality of Shecy Pearls. So we go on doing the investigation in it. To our surprise, another Shecy piracy shop was found from Taobao China. It pirates ShecyPearls brand, logo, website graphic and a lot of jewelry pictures to sells low quality pearl jewelry.

This taobao shop account was called Haiwowo. It was set up on September 30, 2007. The seller was called Wawa loves you which is from Guangxi. So far, 350 pieces of pearl jewelry have been sold by the name of ShecyPearls from this store. It means 350 customers were cheated ordering piracies of ShecyPearls. This conduct not only violates our copyrights and harms our reputation, but also makes customers who love ShecyPearls suffer losses.

Why does the necklace length include the clasp?

Jewelers know the necklace length includes the clasp.

But some people have doubts with the length of the pearl necklace when they arrive home and measure the necklace they’ve just bought. They often find that the length is shorter than it's claimed. How come this problem happens so often? It makes many people feel disappointed and may lead them to the thought that most jewelers are not honest.

It's actually a professional measurement used in jewelry industry, so this is a common mistake that everybody may make. When you measure the length of a pearl necklace, you should include the clasp. That's why you feel sad reading the number when you only measure the length of the pearl strand.

You may ask why the measurement should include the clasp, and it's a good question!

When you see a picture of some necklaces of different length around a woman’s neck on many online jewelry stores, can you imagine the necklaces without clasps? In fact, the effect the pearl necklaces give you is from the pearl strand plus the clasp, so when buying a pearl necklace, the necklace length you choose includes the length of the pearl strand and the clasp. Isn’t it plain to see?
